Member Services

Member services include, for example, publication orders, address changes, the visually impaired person's card, and various discounts.

What are Member Services?

Member Services is your point of contact for various matters, such as:

  • Joining as a member
  • Changing your address
  • Ordering a disability card for the visually impaired
  • Ordering audio publications
  • Registering for events

Disability card for the visually impaired

HUN's full members with a disability rating of at least 50% will receive a visually impaired person's card by mail after joining the association. This card conveniently proves your visual impairment in various situations.

The visually impaired person's card is issued by the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired. If you don't wish to join HUN, you can obtain the card by contacting the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired's member services unit.

Discounts on Transportation and Services

With the visually impaired person's card, HUN members receive these benefits:

  • Free assistant for VR train journeys (if the visually impaired person's disability rating is at least 65%)
  • Free travel card for the visually impaired person and their guide for HSL public transport (if the visual impairment disability rating is at least 50%; applies to all visually impaired individuals permanently residing in Finland)
  • Special swimming card for visually impaired residents of Helsinki for City of Helsinki swimming pools (paid), with similar discounts available in other municipalities.
  • Free accompanying person for visually impaired individuals at the Music Centre for RSO and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra concerts when tickets are purchased at the Music Centre's ticket office.
  • Discounts or a free assistant for many museums, festivals, fairs, amusement parks, concerts, theaters, cinemas, etc. These benefits are organizer-specific.

Affordable 118 Directory Service

A visually impaired person with a disability rating of at least 50% is entitled to an affordable 118 directory service. You can find more information from HUN's Member Services.

Discounts on Newspaper Subscriptions

HUN members also receive discounts on newspaper subscriptions. Orders are placed through HUN's Member Services.

  • A 25% discount on Helsingin Sanomat subscriptions. The discount is calculated from the combined price of the print and digital newspaper.
  • A 15% discount on subscriptions to Aamuposti, Keski-Uusimaa, Uusimaa, Länsi-Uusimaa, and Sipoon Sanomat (changed on October 1, 2021). This discount is available to all visually impaired individuals.

Orders for these subscriptions are made through HUN's Member Services.

Solaris Holidays for Visually and Deafblind Individuals

The Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired, in cooperation with Solaris-lomat ry and with assistance from STEA, organizes holidays for visually impaired and deafblind individuals at several locations across Finland.

Holidays are applied for using the application form found on the Solaris-lomat ry website, which also lists themes and holiday destinations. Holidays are granted based on financial and social criteria.
